Wedding Photography at Dreams Riviera Cancun

by Best Resorts for Weddings, Photo Shoots, Puerto Morelos (Riviera Maya)

So, we had the absolute pleasure of being Devon and Mike’s wedding photographers, and they went with the 8-hour photo shoot package. Their special day was in November, and boy, was it an adventure! The whole thing went down at Dreams Riviera Cancun, and trust me, we had our hands full.

The weather wasn’t exactly on our side that day – it was one of those good ol’ rainy days. So, they had to move the ceremony to the El Patio terrace, and that’s where the magic began. We were there, capturing all those sweet moments as they said “I do.” And let me tell you, those raindrops made the whole scene even more romantic.

After the ceremony, we whisked Devon and Mike away to explore the lush green areas around the venue. Those natural surroundings made for some incredible photos, and we couldn’t have been happier with how they turned out. The love between those two just shone through, rain or shine!

Now, let’s talk party time. The reception and dancing were held in a private ballroom, and it was one for the books. We had a blast capturing all the joy and energy on the dance floor. It’s safe to say that Devon and Mike’s wedding was an absolute hit. We’ve picked out some of the best shots to share with you, and we can’t wait for you to see them. Cheers to Devon and Mike – what a day to remember!

Wedding Photographer FAQ’S

Can I bring my own external photographer to Dreams Riviera Cancun?

Yes! You are absolutely welcome to bring me in as an outside vendor. The resort does require an outside vendor fee, but if you book me as a guest for a minimum of 3 nights, that fee is usually waived. I highly recommend hiring a dedicated photographer because I am already familiar with the specific vendor policies of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection and know how to navigate the resort’s logistics to ensure a seamless experience on your big day.

What are the best locations for wedding photos at the resort?

The resort is beautifully designed—featuring unique octagonal architecture and lush grounds—and I know exactly where to take you for the most stunning backdrops. Whether it’s the iconic Wedding Gazebo overlooking the ocean, the dramatic Grand Lobby Staircase, or the secluded tropical gardens, I know where the hidden gems are. This ensures we get a huge variety of looks, from jungle vibes to beach elegance, without wasting your precious time wandering the property.

Does the resort package include photography services?

While some Dreams Riviera Cancun packages include basic photography, it is often limited regarding hours and image count. My clients usually prefer hiring me independently to ensure full-day coverage—capturing everything from your getting-ready moments in the master suite to the late-night reception party. When you work with me, I guarantee a consistent artistic style and a personal connection that goes far beyond the standard resort offerings.

How do we handle transportation for photos on the property?

Although Dreams Riviera Cancun is more intimate than some mega-resorts, walking between locations in the heat in wedding attire can still be exhausting. I prioritize your comfort by coordinating movements efficiently to keep you cool. My logistical experience here allows us to move between the ceremony gazebo, the lobby, and the beach quickly, maximizing your time celebrating with guests while I still capture those cinematic portraits.

When is the best time for wedding photos in the Riviera Maya?

Lighting is everything in the Caribbean. The mid-day sun can be incredibly harsh, so I always recommend we schedule your romantic portraits during “Golden Hour,” roughly an hour before sunset. I will help you build your wedding timeline to take full advantage of this soft light, ensuring your oceanfront photos look dreamy rather than overexposed, while perfectly timing the transition from your ceremony to the reception.

Can we get sunset photos over the ocean at Dreams Riviera Cancun?

It is important to remember that on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, the sun rises over the ocean and sets over the jungle side. I will schedule our couple’s session to capture the stunning soft light of the “Golden Hour” on the beach, but if you truly want the sun coming up directly over the water, I might suggest a “First Look” session at sunrise. For the evening, I will position you to catch the beautiful colors filling the sky behind the iconic wooden pier or the gazebo structures.

What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

One of the things I love about this resort is its unique, colonial-inspired architecture. If tropical rain occurs, I know exactly where to find the best covered locations, such as the spectacular open-air lobby with its massive chandelier, the covered corridors lined with lush greenery, or the elegant indoor bar areas. These backup spots ensure I can keep your gallery sophisticated and varied regardless of the weather.

Is Dreams Riviera Cancun suitable for large weddings?

Absolutely. Dreams Riviera Cancun is a premier destination for South Asian and large group weddings because of its versatile layout. They are experts at hosting lively Baraats along the main driveway and setting up elaborate Mandaps on the beach or the oceanfront deck. I am well-versed in these multi-day events, understanding the critical angles needed for the Sangeet and how to navigate the specific layout of the Wedding Gazebo area to capture every ritual perfectly.

Where are the best spots for a “First Look” away from guests?

Because the resort is a popular vacation spot, the main pool and deck areas can be crowded. However, the property is famous for its dense, tropical landscaping. I know several secluded garden pathways, quiet spots near the spa, and wooden bridges tucked away in the foliage that offer much more privacy. As your photographer, I scout these secluded locations beforehand to ensure your intimate first look remains private and free of bystanders.

Do we need a second shooter for a Dreams Riviera Cancun wedding?

While the property is more compact than some mega-resorts and doesn’t require golf carts to get from room to room, I still highly recommend a second shooter. Having two photographers allows us to split up; while I am with the bride, my second photographer can cover the groom getting ready in a different wing. It also ensures we capture both the wide, dramatic shots of the Grand Staircase and intimate emotional reactions simultaneously during the ceremony.
